Details
The headwrap originated in sub-Saharan Africa, and was often used to convey modesty, spirituality and prosperity. Even men in Africa wear head wraps to symbolize wealth and social status. Head wrapping is literally a way that African’s for centuries have been able to non-verbally communicate their place in life.
Our headwraps are handmade with 100% African fabric sewn in a triangular design. Can be worn in several styles. The average size headwrap will be 26x51, plenty of fabric to work with for beginners. The Ivory Ida Headwrap remembers the great Ida B Wells. She exudes power and persistence. Born a slave in Holly Springs, Mississippi she became a journalist for our people and went on to do great things. This includes owning a newspaper in Memphis, Tennessee and becoming co-founder of the NACW.
